Weekend Part 1

So this past weekend was so ridiculous that it deserves two different blog posts and we will start with the more life altering event. Now we were all pretty confident that this would never happen however it did this weekend and it sent everyone into panic mode thinking that the last two months of the school year we would be without it and how our whole lives would be surrounded by doing all of the chores that it usually takes care of for us. In our house we found out by going downstairs to clean our vacuum filter. In Michelle's house she found out when she went to hop into the shower after a workout. However eventually the word spread that we had lost our water. For about an hour after we found out we still had a small trickle from our faucet so we tried to fill up every container we had in the house. We were imagining no showers or hot baths. Hand washing all of our clothes. Hand washing all of our dishes. Constantly making potty water. It is going to be so rough for our last two months of school. School was potentially going to be canceled because how do you stuff 200 students into a building with no potties?

Occassionally we would hear a few trickles come from the faucet and because we are working on potty training Parker we would think it was him peeing on the carpet so we would immediately jump up and yell at him only to find the sink with a few drops coming from it. Poor guy.

Of course that whole night the need for water or the need to go potty has never been more intense. Yes I realize it is silly because we had plenty of snow right outside our window! However it's not the same.

Then on Sunday we started melting snow. First we just did enough to fill up one side of our sink to wash our hair. In which we would dunk our hair in the right sink. Then put shampoo our hair in the left sink. Then take cups of water from the right sink and pour it over our heads in the left sink. It was quite a sight! When we were all done with our hair we started in on making potty water. Yes I said that right potty water and making it. We melted almost 36 gallons of water on the stove which took us about 5 hours. We would haul the snow in from outside (the front not the back because thats where the dogs go potty) and we had four pots on the stove which we would keep half way full of water constantly in order to have the snow melt faster. Our house was super hot and even open windows could not keep the house cool with four stoves on high. Eventually we called Uncle because we were just so tired of hauling snow in and hauling the melted water up to the tubs in our bath.

We even developed a way to wash dishes. We would take a snow chunk and use it to scrap away scraps. Then another snow chunk with a little soap on it to wash the plate. Then a final snow chunk with a little was to get the plate clean. It just like everything was a long tedious project.

And of course about two hours later our water came back on and we were fine. We have had water since then. THANK HEAVEN!! However we wish we had our weekend back to relax.
